A Strong Beginning . . .
The Pine Hill Community
Center began at a kitchen table over a cup of tea. There was a
longing for the old time tradition of community pot luck dinners, parties
and activities. The desire was for friends and neighbors of all ages
to be able to come together, building a sense of community and
responsibility toward each other.
After a local tragedy, time seemed perfect to
pull young and old together as family. A public meeting was held.
Ideas and dreams were shared. A second meeting; a third. Dedicated,
caring people opened their hearts, their lives and their wallets
and gave of their time. A building was donated and renovated; a
board of directors was formed.
In 1999 the dream became a reality with a grand
opening celebration, and in 2000 the Pine Hill Community Center was officially
incorporated as a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charity. Since then many
changes have taken place. New people have come, others have gone.
What remains is a group of dedicated people working together for the
betterment of their community. The Pine Hill Community Center is
open to all ages from as far away as people are willing to
travel, and brings a wide variety of activities and events to the Central
Catskills area, serving especially north-western Ulster and eastern Delaware
Counties.
We invite you to come visit - you may
be inspired to see what can be realized from a dream over a cup of
tea!
